Idaho Power is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Legal Intern
to join our litigation team and gain practical experience on regulations, laws, litigation, and risk management from an in-house perspective. The internship is for Summer 2025 but has the potential to expand to the 2025-26 academic year, depending on workload and performance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight to the legal field by working alongside Idaho Power's in-house attorneys in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The intern will be exposed to a variety of projects in multiple areas of law and will work on matters often handled by legal professionals and junior attorneys.
What
does a Legal Intern
do
for
us?
With supervision from licensed attorneys and in collaboration with the litigation team, the intern will perform the following duties:
Participate in factual investigations, including witness and internal subject matter expert interviews, to gather information and evidence to defend the company against a variety of potential claims.
Analyze complex legal issues and provide detailed recommendations to the team.
Conduct and concisely summarize legal research on topics involving regulatory compliance, wildfire, contractual obligations, employment law, and other areas pertinent to Idaho Power’s operations.
Support the team in managing litigation and pre-litigation matters, including document review, drafting correspondence, and working with outside counsel.
Participate in compliance initiatives and risk mitigation by assisting with legal risk assessments, process documents, and policy development.
Review company policies/procedures to ensure alignment with evolving legal and regulatory standards.
Monitor and analyze new legal and regulatory developments.
Participate in department meetings and trainings given by legal staff.
Perform other tasks at the direction of the General Counsel, attorneys, or legal professionals.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Skills in:
Excellent research, analytical, and legal writing skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for varied audiences.
Managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
Ability to:
Work independently with instruction and limited guidance.
Collaborate with team members and other business units to resolve legal issues.
Adapt to shifts in priorities.
Take accountability for decisions and actions.
Engage in productive and constructive conversations on challenging legal issues.
Be flexible with work hours when necessary to accomplish tasks.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited law school program, pursuing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Preferred:
Strong academic performance with a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The position location is in Boise, Idaho, and onsite work is required. Work hours are generally 8:00-5:00 with some flexibility.
This is a Seasonal position. No housing or relocation benefits are provided. Internal, regular employees who are successful candidates will be placed as regular employees in a Temporary Duty Assignment job classification. In order for your current position to be held open for the duration of the assignment or filled temporarily, qualified employees must have supervisory approval to participate and have been in their current position for at least six months.
