Privacy

Short version: we do not want your data.

• No accounts. You can read everything without signing up. A session cookie exists only for the site administrator's login page.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see which pages actually help people. It sets cookies, and Google processes that usage data as described in its privacy policy. We do not use it to work out who you are.
• Server logs. Like every website, our host keeps standard access logs (IP address, page, time) for security and debugging.
• Email. If you write to us, we use your address to write back. That is all.
• Email alerts. The subscribe box is optional. If you use it, your address goes to Substack, which stores the list and sends our emails under its privacy policy. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we never share the list.
• Ads. This site carries Google AdSense advertising, and that is what pays for it. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site or to other sites, and those advertising cookies are how Google and its partners choose which ads you see. You can switch personalised ads off in Google's ad settings, and opt out of other vendors' advertising cookies at www.aboutads.info. Switching them off does not remove the ads — it only stops them being chosen from your browsing.
• Links out. We link to official portals. What those sites do is on them.
