AICTE Swanath Scholarship 2026-27: ₹50,000 a year for orphans and wards of those lost to Covid or martyred in action

Last date 31 Oct 2026
Who can apply ITI or diploma, Graduation · Family income up to ₹8 lakh
Opens 1 Jun 2026
You get ₹50,000/year
Central Govt All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

₹50,000 a year for students in AICTE-approved degree or diploma courses who are orphans, lost a parent to Covid-19, are wards of armed forces or CAPF personnel martyred in action, or have a parent with a critical illness or severe accident disability. Family income up to ₹8 lakh. 2,000 scholarships a year, on the National Scholarship Portal until 31 October 2026.

Who can apply

You must fall in at least one of these four categories:

- Orphan
- Either or both parents died due to Covid-19
- Ward of armed forces or Central Armed Police Forces personnel martyred in action (Shaheed)
- A parent is suffering from a critical life-threatening disease (such as cancer), or died or was severely disabled — above 80% under the RPwD Act, 2016 — in an accident

And all of the following must also be true:

- Family income from all sources not more than ₹8 lakh in the financial year of the application, with a valid income certificate from the state or UT government
- Currently studying in an AICTE-approved institution and course, at degree or diploma level, in regular mode, in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year
- You are not receiving any other Central Government, State Government or AICTE-sponsored scholarship

What you get

₹50,000 a year, paid as a lump sum towards college fees, a computer, stationery, books, equipment and software. There is no extra grant for hostel or medical charges.

How long it runs: up to 4 years for degree students admitted in the first year, and up to 3 years for diploma students. If you are already in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a degree, the duration reduces to 3, 2 or 1 year respectively; for diploma students in the 2nd or 3rd year it reduces to 2 or 1 year.

How many are given

A maximum of 2,000 scholarships a year — 1,000 for degree students and 1,000 for diploma students. Selection is purely on merit in the qualifying examination: Class 12 marks for degree candidates, Class 10 marks for diploma candidates. Ties are broken by Class 10 percentage, then age, then lower family income.

Documents to keep ready

What you need depends on your category. Broadly:

- Orphans: death certificates of both parents, or a certificate from the Tehsildar or SDM in the prescribed format
- Covid-19 cases: death certificate explicitly stating the death was due to Covid-19; if one parent is alive, a current-year income certificate showing family income under ₹8 lakh
- Wards of martyred personnel: death certificate, Shaheed certificate from the armed forces or CAPF, and a current-year income certificate
- Everyone: bonafide certificate from the institution, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets as applicable to your level, and a category certificate if you have one

How to apply

Apply online at scholarships.gov.in once the notice is published on the AICTE or NSP website. Your institution verifies the application, and the state or UT Directorate of Technical Education verifies it at the second level. Payment is made annually by DBT into your Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Renewal is not automatic: you submit a promotion certificate and a bonafide certificate on NSP each year, and missing that window forfeits the scholarship.
