Arunachal Post-Matric Scholarship, ST: last date 16 October

This is the Government of India's Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students, awarded by Arunachal Pradesh to students domiciled in the state. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs funds it and the state runs it on the National Scholarship Portal. For 2026-27 the portal shows the Arunachal Pradesh window open from 7 August 2026 until 16 October 2026.

Who can apply

• You belong to a Scheduled Tribe notified for Arunachal Pradesh, and you are domiciled in the state
• You have passed Class 10 or a higher examination, and you are studying a recognised post-matric course: Class 11 or 12, ITI, a polytechnic diploma, a degree, a postgraduate degree, MPhil or PhD
• Your family income from all sources is no more than ₹2.5 lakh a year. If both parents work, their incomes are added together; a brother, sister or anyone else in the family who earns is not counted. If only one parent is alive, only that parent's income counts. For an orphan supported by a guardian, there is no income limit at all
• You have an account in a scheduled bank, linked to your Aadhaar and your mobile number
• Correspondence and distance courses count

Who cannot

• Students at one of the institutes on the Ministry's Top Class list, currently 252 of them. They are covered by a different scheme, the National Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students
• Anyone who has finished a course in one stream and starts a course in another. A BCom after a BA or BSc, or MBBS after a BTech, is not funded

What it pays

The scholarship has two parts: your compulsory non-refundable course fees, and a monthly stipend.

• Fees — the compulsory fees your institution charges, at the rate fixed by the state's fee fixation committee. In a private institute the Government of India's share is capped at ₹2.50 lakh a year for engineering, ₹6.00 lakh for MBBS, MS or MD, and ₹1.00 lakh for other courses; the state may pay more
• Group I — professional degrees, postgraduate degrees and PG diplomas, and MPhil or PhD in professional streams: ₹1,200 a month in a hostel, ₹550 as a day scholar
• Group II — non-professional degrees in arts, science and commerce, such as BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc or MCom, and MPhil or PhD in those subjects: ₹820 in a hostel, ₹530 as a day scholar
• Group III — vocational courses, ITI and three-year polytechnic diplomas: ₹570 in a hostel, ₹300 as a day scholar
• Group IV — Class 11 and 12: ₹380 in a hostel, ₹230 as a day scholar
• Disability — ₹800 a month more for a hosteller and ₹600 for a day scholar, certified by the state's medical authority. This also covers students cured of leprosy and students with sickle cell anaemia or thalassemia

The stipend is paid for at most 10 months a year, from April or the month you are admitted, whichever is later. It is not meant to cover mess or hostel charges. If your college cannot give you a hostel place, a residence approved by the head of your institution counts as a hostel, with a certificate from them; a rented place counts only if at least five students live there together, usually with a common mess.

The portal's attachment for Arunachal Pradesh is out of date

The National Scholarship Portal attaches a summary of this scheme to the Arunachal Pradesh row that was last revised in 2013. It places BA, BSc and BCom one group lower, at ₹570 and ₹300, and ITI and polytechnic diplomas one group lower too, at ₹380 and ₹230. The Ministry's 2022 regulations for the same scheme, which the portal attaches to other states' rows, say they apply to every student who applies on or after 1 April 2022. The amounts on this page follow the 2022 regulations. If your stipend is worked out on the older grouping, the 2022 regulations are the document to point to.

One scholarship at a time

You can hold only one scholarship or stipend at a time. If you are awarded another, you choose whichever pays you more and tell the awarding authority through the head of your institution. The Arunachal Pradesh State Stipend runs on the portal in exactly the same window, 7 August to 16 October, so this is the choice most applicants here will face.

Documents

• Aadhaar number
• Domicile certificate
• Scanned certificates for every examination you have passed
• Marks in your last qualifying examination
• ST certificate from the competent authority of the state
• Family income certificate. A self-declaration or an affidavit of your own income is not accepted
• Disability certificate, if you are claiming the disability allowance
• A scanned passport-size photograph

The income certificate is needed only once, when you are admitted to the course; you do not need a fresh one every year.

Renewal

• The award runs for the whole course, as long as you pass each year and move up
• If you fail a year, it stops until you clear that class
• If illness kept you from the examination, it can be renewed on a medical certificate and your head of institution's certificate that you would have passed
• If you did not apply in your first year, you can apply in a later year and be paid for the rest of the course

Dates on the portal

• 7 August 2026 — applications opened
• 16 October 2026 — last date for students to apply
• 20 October 2026 — last date for correcting defective applications, and for your institute to verify you
• 30 October 2026 — last date for district and state verification

Your institute has only four days after the student deadline to verify you. Apply early enough that it can.
