Post-Matric Scholarship, disability: last date 31 October

For students with a benchmark disability of 40% or more studying in Class 11 onwards — school, diploma, degree or a master's — from families earning up to ₹2.5 lakh a year. Before You Apply

Who can apply

  • Studying after Class 10: Class 11 or 12, a post-matriculation diploma or certificate, a bachelor's degree or diploma in India, or a master's degree or diploma from a university recognised by UGC or AICTE
  • Benchmark disability of 40% or more under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, with a valid disability certificate
  • UDID card or UDID enrolment, and Aadhaar-based biometric authentication
  • Parental income up to ₹2.5 lakh a year
  • Indian national

Distance and correspondence students are eligible — the guidelines say so explicitly, and this is one of the few schemes where that is true.

What you get

  • Admission and tuition fees reimbursed up to ₹1.4 lakh a year, subject to the actual amount
  • Other compulsory fees (library, sports, medical examination) up to ₹10,000 a year
  • Maintenance allowance: ₹1,200 a month for hostellers, ₹650 a month for day scholars
  • Disability allowance: ₹4,000 a year for visual impairment or intellectual disabilities, ₹2,000 a year for other disabilities
  • Book allowance: ₹1,500 a year

Who is not covered

If you already passed one stage of education and are now studying at the same stage in a different subject — a B.Com after a B.A., for example — you are not eligible. LLB, B.Ed and B.El.Ed after a bachelor's degree are specifically allowed. If you are doing two courses at once, the scholarship applies to one of them only.

About the slots

There are 17,000 slots a year including renewals, and the official guidelines state that fresh cases are considered only against the slots left after renewals are processed. Fifty per cent of slots are reserved for female candidates. Apply early with complete documents rather than close to the date.

  • Disability certificate (40% or more) and UDID card or enrolment proof
  • Income certificate of the parent
  • Fee receipt showing admission and tuition fees
  • Aadhaar seeded with your bank account
  • Last qualifying marksheet and proof of admission
  • Bank passbook and a passport-size photo

How to apply

Apply at scholarships.gov.in under the Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. Finish your One Time Registration first, then submit and get your institution to verify it on the portal. If you are a permanent resident of one state but studying in another, your application is recommended by the education or welfare department of the state you belong to.
