Scholarships for girl students: the ones worth knowing about
Several large schemes are open only to girls, and they are among the most generous in the country. If you are a girl student, or you are the one in the family who reads these things, start here.
Why this list matters
Girls-only schemes are often less crowded than the general ones, which means a better chance for the same effort. Several of them are also considerably larger amounts.
What to look for
- AICTE Pragati, ₹50,000 a year for girls in AICTE-approved technical degree and diploma courses
- Kotak Kanya, a large annual award for girls entering professional courses after Class 12
- State schemes that waive fees for girl students, which vary widely by state
- Single girl child schemes at postgraduate level, offered by some central bodies
What usually decides eligibility
- Your Class 12 marks, since several schemes set a minimum
- Family income
- The type of course, with technical and professional courses better covered than general degrees
