Chhattisgarh BPL Scholarship for college students 2026-27: ₹3,000 a year for UG and ₹5,000 for PG, last date 30 September

Last date 30 Sep 2026
Who can apply Graduation, Post-graduation · Chhattisgarh
Opens 2 Jul 2026
You get ₹300 to ₹500 a month
State Govt Department of Higher Education, Government of Chhattisgarh · Chhattisgarh

For students from BPL families studying in a government college in Chhattisgarh, under the Higher Education Department. ₹300 a month for undergraduates and ₹500 a month for postgraduates, paid for up to 10 months from July to April — so ₹3,000 a year at UG and ₹5,000 at PG. Your guardian must hold a BPL card, you must have passed the annual examination in the first attempt, and you must not be drawing any other scholarship. On the NSP until 30 September 2026.

Chhattisgarh's Higher Education Department has run this scholarship since 2005. It is small money, and it is honest about being small money: the guidelines say it exists "to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies". It is not a fee waiver and it does not pretend to be one.

What it is worth knowing is that the eligibility test is a BPL card, not an income certificate. If your family holds one, you do not have to chase a tehsildar for an income affidavit — which for a lot of students is the single hardest document to get.

Who can apply

- You are studying in a government college of Chhattisgarh run by the Higher Education Department
- Your guardian holds a BPL card
- You are not receiving any other scholarship
- You passed the annual examination in the first attempt
- Your attendance is not short

That first condition is narrower than it looks. The scholarship is for government colleges under the Higher Education Department only. A private college, or a government college under a different department, is not covered.

The "first attempt" condition is the one that quietly disqualifies people. If you cleared a paper in a supplementary or back examination, you did not pass the annual examination in the first attempt.

What you get

- Undergraduate — ₹300 a month
- Postgraduate — ₹500 a month

The scholarship is paid for a maximum of 10 qualifying months, from July to April. So a full year is ₹3,000 at UG level and ₹5,000 at PG level.

Nothing else is added. The guidelines are explicit that no tuition fee, admission fee or caution money is paid on top of this figure.

How the months are counted, and why applying late costs you money

This is the part worth reading twice, because it is unusual and it has a direct rupee cost.

A month only counts if you took admission on or before the 21st of that month. The guidelines work through examples: a UG student admitted on 10 July 2023 qualifies for all 10 months and receives ₹3,000. A UG student admitted on 25 August 2023 loses both July and August and receives ₹2,400 — ₹600 less, for a difference of two weeks in the admission date.

Renewal applicants are treated differently and better: a renewal gets the full amount, ₹3,000 for UG classes and ₹5,000 for PG classes, without the month-by-month calculation.

So if you are in your second or third year and you received this scholarship in your first year, apply under Renewal, not Fresh. The guidelines say so directly.

How it is checked and paid

Online applications are verified at two levels — first by the institution where you study, then by the State Government office. An application that is not verified by either one, or by both, is treated as invalid. Submit your documents to your institution and then follow up; the deadline is yours, but the verification is theirs.

Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer straight into your bank account. Your Aadhaar has to be seeded to that account for the transfer to land.

Documents to keep ready before you register

- Your educational documents
- Bank passbook, for the account details
- Aadhaar number
- A valid mobile number
- An email ID

The guidelines add one piece of practical advice worth following: do not change your mobile number for the duration of the scholarship.

How to apply

Apply on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. First-time applicants register as a fresh applicant through the Student Registration Form, entering information exactly as printed on the documents. Second and third year students who already received the BPL scholarship apply under Renewal.

The scheme board shows this scheme open from 2 July 2026, with student applications accepted until 30 September 2026.

There is no fee to apply. Nobody needs to be paid to fill this form for you.
