NSP Pre-Matric Scholarships: your state sets the last date
For SC, ST, OBC, minority and differently-abled school students up to Class 10, on the National Scholarship Portal. Checked on 29 August 2026: there is no single national last date. NSP sets one per state, and they run from 31 August 2026 in Himachal Pradesh to 15 February 2027 in Delhi, with West Bengal not yet open. Every state date we could read is listed below. If you are in college, this is the one to forward to your younger brother or sister.

What these are
Pre-matric scholarships support school students (up to Class 10) from SC, ST, OBC, minority and differently-abled backgrounds, mostly Classes 9 and 10, with some schemes (like the minority pre-matric) covering earlier classes too. They run on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), separately from the post-matric schemes.
The date that matters is your state's, and they are months apart
There is no single national pre-matric last date. This page used to carry 31 August 2026, taken from scholarship trackers rather than from the government, and NSP's own scheme board contradicts it for most states.
These are the "Student Application Open till" dates on scholarships.gov.in/All-Scholarships, read on 29 August 2026. Find your state. The board is the authority; this page is not.
- Himachal Pradesh: 31 August 2026, for SC, ST, PM YASASVI, and the unclean-occupations scheme covering Classes 1 to 10
- Uttarakhand: 31 August 2026 for the state-sector minority pre-matric, but 30 September 2026 for SC, ST, PM YASASVI and the state-sector disability pre-matric
- Chandigarh: 15 September 2026, for SC and PM YASASVI
- Punjab: 25 September 2026, for SC, PM YASASVI, and the unclean-occupations scheme
- Arunachal Pradesh: 30 September 2026, for ST
- Assam: 30 September 2026 for SC, OBC and the unclean-occupations scheme covering Classes 1 to 10; 6 October 2026 for ST
- Goa: 31 October 2026 for ST, 30 November 2026 for SC; the unclean-occupations scheme is shown as not yet opened
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands: 31 October 2026 for PM YASASVI, 31 December 2026 for ST
- Maharashtra: 30 November 2026, for PM YASASVI
- Delhi: 15 February 2027, for SC and PM YASASVI
- West Bengal: not yet opened, for both the SC scheme and the unclean-occupations scheme
If your state is not in that list it was not on the board when we read it. Open the board yourself and check your own row before you plan anything.
The four schemes that do close on 31 August 2026
On the central board, four schemes close on 31 August 2026, and three of them have their own page on this site:
- National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMSS): "Student Application Open till : 31-08-2026"
- Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities: "Student Application Open till : 31-08-2026"
- Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi, Cine, IOMC and LSDM workers, Pre-Matric: "Student Application Open till : 31-08-2026"
- PM YASASVI in schools, renewal only: "Student Application Open till (for Renewal): 31-08-2026"
If you are applying to one of those four, 31 August is real and it is two days away.

Documents to keep ready
- Caste/community certificate (as applicable to the scheme)
- Fresh income certificate
- Aadhaar (seeded with a bank account, the student's or as the scheme allows)
- Previous class marksheet, school bonafide certificate
- Bank passbook, passport-size photo

1. One-Time Registration (OTR) on NSP first, see our OTR guide on this site
2. Log in, choose the pre-matric scheme for your community, fill and submit
3. The school verifies applications after submission, inform the school office once you apply
