Uttarakhand's own pre-matric scholarship, separate from the centrally sponsored one, for SC, ST and disabled students in Classes 1 to 10 at a recognised school in the state. Rates are annual, not monthly, and the biggest single factor is whether you live in a hostel: a Class 9-10 SC hosteller gets ₹6,250 a year against ₹3,000 for a day scholar. There is no income limit at all for SC and ST students up to Class 8. On the NSP until 30 September 2026.

Uttarakhand runs its own pre-matric scholarships alongside the centrally sponsored ones. On the National Scholarship Portal these are the rows marked "State Sector", and there are three of them: SC students, ST students, and disabled students. They share one set of rules, which is why they are on one page here.

If you are looking at a different Uttarakhand pre-matric row on the portal without "State Sector" in the name, that is the centrally sponsored scheme, which is a separate application with its own dates.

Who can apply

- You are a resident of Uttarakhand and enrolled as an institutional student at a recognised school run in the state
- You passed last year's examination
- You are not enrolled in more than one school in the same academic year
- For the disability component, the same three conditions apply

The income limits, which are unusual

- SC and ST students in Classes 1 to 8 — no income limit has been fixed at all
- SC and ST students in Classes 9 and 10 — parent's or guardian's income from all sources up to ₹2,50,000
- OBC students in Classes 1 to 10 — up to ₹2,50,000

That first line is worth reading again. For an SC or ST child up to Class 8, family income is not a bar.

What you get — annual rates, and the hostel question

These rates are per year, not per month. Do not compare them to monthly figures on other pages.

For SC and ST students, pre-matric:

- Class 1 to 5 — ₹600 a year
- Class 6 to 8 — ₹960 a year

For SC students in Classes 9 and 10:

- Day scholar, not living in a hostel — ₹3,000 a year
- Living in a hostel — ₹6,250 a year

For OBC students:

- Class 3 to 10 living in a hostel — ₹5,500 a year
- Class 1 to 10 day scholars — ₹1,500 a year
- Class 9 to 10 day scholars — ₹1,500 a year, and hostellers ₹5,500 a year

For disabled students, pre-matric:

- Class 1 to 5 — ₹600 a year
- Class 6 to 8 — ₹960 a year

The pattern across all of it: living in a hostel roughly doubles or trebles the amount. A Class 9 SC student in a hostel gets ₹6,250 where a day scholar in the same class gets ₹3,000. If the student is a hosteller, make sure the application says so, because it is the single field on this form that moves the most money.

Who gets paid first

The guidelines set an order, and it is better to know it than to be surprised by it. For SC and ST students in Classes 1 to 8, the scholarship is paid first to students studying in government and government-aided schools, and only after that is payment ensured for students in non-government recognised schools. The same order applies to the disabled students' component for Classes 1 to 10.

If you are at a private recognised school, your application is valid — but expect the money later in the cycle.

The three things that stop payment

This scheme's own guidelines put unusual weight on name matching, so we will too:

1. The name on your scholarship application, the name on your Aadhaar and the name on your bank account must all be the same. The guidelines state plainly that if the name on the online application and the name on the bank account are not identical, payment cannot be made. A middle name on one and not the other is enough to stop it.
2. Aadhaar is verified through the portal. Entering your Aadhaar number in the application is treated as consent for that verification.
3. The account must be a CBS account in a nationalised bank, in the student's own name. The District Social Welfare Officer transfers the scholarship and fee amount into it online.

One small mercy in the rules: the mobile number does not have to be unique per student. The same number may be used by more than one student of the same family, so a household with one phone is not blocked.

How to apply

Apply on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in, under the Uttarakhand State Sector pre-matric scholarship that matches the student — SC, ST or disability. Complete your One Time Registration first.

All three rows show the scheme open from 2 June 2026, with student applications accepted until 30 September 2026. Your school verifies the application on the portal after you submit, so a last-day submission leaves the school no time.

A note on the class range on this page

Our level tags start at Class 9, so this post is filed under Class 9-10. The scheme runs from Class 1, and the rates above for the younger classes are real and current. If you are applying for a younger child, you are in the right place.
